Your LinkedIn Headline Should Hit The Spot

Your LinkedIn headline has 220 characters to work with, but here's the golden nugget - only the first 40 characters appear in people's feeds when you post or comment. Anything beyond that gets cropped.

That means those first 40 characters are prime real estate. They're your shop window, your opening line, your first impression

❓ So what does yours say right now?

If it's just your job title and company name - "Director at Blue Spire Limited" - you're not alone. But you're also not telling people anything useful. What do you actually do? How do you help people?

Think about what you'd say in the first sentence when meeting someone at a networking event. That's your headline.

A real example:

Katie Wilson, Director at Blue Spire Accountants, was one of my Super Sixty clients. Her headline used to be just her job title and company. ❌ Now it says:

"The Accountant who's got your back. I help owner managed business navigate all things Accounting and Tax."

Her first 40 characters? "The Accountant who's got your back. I hel..."

Even cropped, you immediately know what she does and that she's approachable. The full headline gives even more detail, but those first 40 do the heavy lifting.

🟢 ACTION: Go to your profile, click the pencil icon next to your headline, and check what your first 40 characters say.

Does it make sense on its own, or does the important bit get cut off? If your best message is hiding after character 41, it's time for a rewrite and I can help.
