Why you should take shopping seriously on social media for your ecommerce business
Almost 50% of shoppers research products on social media.
Hands up if you are one of these people? Yep, 100% me too. I love an Instagram research rabbit hole as much as the next gal. And it’s only going to increase.
1) social media channels are increasingly used as “discovery engines” whether it’s inspo from a brand or individual, or a timely DM from a friend. You need to ensure your product is there right at that moment.
2) (my prediction) by the end of this year, Facebook and Instagram will have rolled in-app payment — so you never have to leave their ecosystem . But it’s more than that, we all want a frictionless shopping experience — one click and done. The shortest route to purchase as possible before they change their mind.
3) The pandemic has accelerated the uptake in online shopping — it’s not just something that “the youngsters” do, we are all at it. Gen Z to Boomers. 70% of 55+ age range say they bought something online in the past month. 87% of people claim that social media helped to make a decision.
WHAT GRINDS MY GEARS? If you have taken the time and effort to set up your Facebook and Instagram shop but you’re not tagging products every time, you might as well kiss goodbye to that person browsing becoming a customer ain’t nobody got time to quit what they are doing in the hope they can find a link in your bio and navigate easily to the product they quite fancied.
