How To Get Local Press Coverage

About Community Submissions

Have a story to tell? Your local news matters, and this platform makes it easy to share what's happening in your community with a wider audience. Whether it's celebrating local achievements, covering community events, or highlighting important issues, your contributions help keep everyone connected and informed.

This platform accepts various types of community content across four main categories:

  • What's On: Local events, festivals, community gatherings, and activities

  • Sport: Match reports, club news, achievements, and sporting events

  • Business: New openings, success stories, community initiatives, and local enterprise news

  • Groups: Club activities, charity work, volunteer efforts, and community organisation updates

What works best: Stories with strong local relevance, clear community impact, and engaging visuals. Personal opinion pieces, event coverage, and human interest stories perform particularly well.

Getting Started

Step 1: Visit https://www.yourworld.net/submit/ and log in to your account. If you don't have an account yet, create one first.

Step 2: Click on "Share Your Story" to begin the submission process.

Writing Your Story

Step 3: Complete the story details:

  • Headline: Always begin with a compelling title

  • First paragraph: Suggestion: "Chichester Business Networking Group, Last Friday Club, Turns 9. How it started … "

  • Story content: Fill in the remaining story boxes with your full article

Adding Images

Step 4: Upload your main image:

  • Click "Upload image"

  • Select your image file

  • Fill in the caption and copyright information

  • Note: You can add additional images later in step 9

Step 5: Select your target website. Sussex users should choose "Sussex World", but you can tick as many local publications as you like for wider reach (if relevant)

Step 6: Select the appropriate article category from the dropdown menu.

Step 7: Tick the "I agree to the terms and conditions" checkbox.

Step 8: Click the red "Next" button on the right to proceed.

Adding More Media (Optional)

Step 9: Upload additional images if needed:

  • Click "Upload image"

  • Enter caption and copyright details

  • To add more images, click "Add another image" beneath your upload

  • Repeat this process for each additional image

Step 10: Click the red "Next" button to continue.

Step 11: Add video content (optional):

  • If you have a video to include, click "Upload video" and follow the prompts

  • If not, click the red "Finish" button

Confirmation

Step 12: You'll see a "Thank You!" confirmation page stating "Your article has been successfully submitted", along with three steps outlining what happens next in the review process.

Once it has been reviewed (typically within a couple of hours), you will receive an email notification with a direct link to your article, which you can share across your network.

  1. Website: add the article as a blog/news post

  2. LinkedIn: you can also recreate as an article post, rather than sharing a link to the source site

  3. Instagram: use the article link (to the source or your website article) in Stories (links don’t work in captions for grid posts). BONUS: You can also add it to your profile, where you can add up to 5 external links (Professional accounts)

Et voilà!
