0% plastic, 100% fantastic

🔔 Ding-dong ... lessons in building a personal brand from Barbie n Ken? No, I'm not bloody kidding ... but do expect a little plastic fantastic stretch.

Q: Aside from perfect hair, what do Barbie and ken have in common with LinkedIn?
A: They know exactly how to build a stand out personal brand 🎀🤵

I know this all sounds like a bit of Friday folly, but stick with me, my favourite founders. You might just pick up a tip or two.

What Barbie and Ken understand, in their plastic fantastic world, is that a strong personal brand requires consistency, personality, (and perhaps a pinch of aspiration too).

1️⃣ Consistency: Have you ever seen Barbie not being Barbie? I know, I know, one day she's a robotics engineer, the next she's a surgeon, and then, hey presto, she's a CEO — but she is always, unequivocally, Barbie.

That's how you should be on LinkedIn — an adaptable expert in your field, but always true to yourself. It's okay to wear more than one hat, it works well for me and many of my peers.

Make sure you and your values ring true across your profile, posts, and interactions (in comments or DMs).

2️⃣ Personality: Barbie and Ken might be made of the plastic persuasion, but their personalities are far from it.

Ignore the "this ain't Facebook" haters) show a bit of your personality in your posts — being relatable and accessible will attract your peeps (and put off the creeps!). And anyway, you'll only exhaust yourself trying to imitate others, be you — you are brilliant.

Your LinkedIn presence is far more than your job title — LinkedIn is far from the CV sausage factory of old.

- Who are you here for
- What can you do for them
- Why are you the one for the job.

And, if you're stuck for inspiration, ask yourself: what would Barbie and Ken do? 💅🚀

Or better still, ask Debbie — 0% plastic, just 100% fantastic.
